PROJECT
ACTIVITIES:
The project is undertaking the following activities
which are major project components.
PROJECT ACHIEVEMENT
Since implementation of the project started, the project
has recorded the following achievements:
- Project has supported Tanzanian Bureau of standards
to review and adopt East African PV standards and Codes of Practice.
Enforcement of standards pending approval of East African Technical
committee.
- Awareness programme to decision makers conducted
to remove duties and taxes which are removed since 2005.
- Installation of 20 demonstration PV systems at
schools and health facilities and other media campaign has resulted
in demand increase of more than 300%.
- Four PV companies established after the project
intervention in Mwanza region.
- All PV dealers in Mwanza region have received business
skill training organized by the project.
- Increase sales of PV modules of up to more than
1000 peaces a year.
- Training of technicians conducted training for
61 technicians from Mwanza region and neighboring regions. Trainings
were on sizing, installation, and maintenance.
- VETA has been assisted by the project to introduce
PV curriculum in its electrical installation courses. The project trained
VETA instructors who will train technicians.
- The project has tested a number of project using
PV for income generation including hair cutting business, fish pond
aeration, mobile phone charging
