Tanzania’s PV standards Sought:

The project has supported and facilitated initiatives aiming to develop standards and adopting recommended codes of practice for the functional and operational requirements of PV systems and equipment in Tanzania.

The supported initiatives include the formation of a National working group comprising of various PV industry stakeholders to review and adopt the current draft of East African PV standards.

The stakeholders include representatives from TBS, the project, Ministry of Energy and Minerals, private sector, academic institutions and end-users.
The project has supported a series of PV standards review meetings of the working group at Tanzania Bureau of Standards.

A total of 11 meetings have been convened and the review process is finalized pending approval of East African Technical Committee in November 2005.

Some of the sought standards, codes and practices may include the following universal listing of recommendations:

  • Recommended Criteria for Terrestrial Photovoltaic Power Systems
  • Recommended Practice for Utility Interface of Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
  • Recommended Practice for Installation and Maintenance of Lead-Acid Batteries for Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
  • Recommended Practice for Sizing Lead-Acid Batteries for Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
  • Recommended Practice for Sizing Nickel-Cadmium Batteries for Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
  • Recommended Practice for Qualification of Photovoltaic (PV) Modules
  • Recommended Practice for the Installation and Maintenance of Nickel-Cadmium Batteries for Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
  • Guide for Terrestrial Photovoltaic Power System Safety
  • Recommended Practice for Qualification of Concentrator Photovoltaic (PV) Receiver Sections and Modules
  • Guide for Selection, Charging, Test and Evaluation of Lead-Acid Batteries Used in Stand-Alone Photovoltaic (PV) System.
